Marching Band Horn: The exact name of the Marching Band Horn is unknown, it's an instrument that was bought 25 years ago in a music store that was getting rid of a dozen or so of these. It uses a French horn mouthpiece and the range is a little lower than a trumpet and a little higher than a trombone. Due to it's mouthpiece, the sound can be mellower than the 2 aforementioned instruments. It has only one valve. The samples were taken from various performances played by myself, so they're unique and they have a live feel. The samples are not looped so you have the natural decay of the sound, though some are quite short. The mapping does not use velocity layers and some samples are stretched but no other processing is involved. Even though the programs are usually mapped from C0 to C6, it is when played from G1 to C4 that it sounds pretty much like the real performance, higher it sounds like a trumpet. The lowest notes, even though they don't sound very natural, can be really interesting and provide some strange sounds. The original pitch of the samples is in the name of the patches. So for the optimal natural sound, play in the vicinity of that note. You can use the soundfonts and the samples in any piece of music for free. If you do use them I would appreciate to be notified. The only restriction is that you are not allowed to sell or distribute the samples themselves or the soundfonts without written authorization. This sounfont is the first in serie dedicated to the Marching Band horn and the trumpet.
